Over the summer, I participated in a 2 week sustainable/alternative transportation study abroad program in Scandinavia through Portland State University (PSU)!

Where/What is Scandinavia?

Located in the Nordic region, Scandinavia historically consists of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway and is found in Northern Europe.

Why am I going to Scandinavia?

As an urban planning graduate student studying environmental and transportation planning, I jumped on this opportunity as soon as I heard about it - especially considering that I had also been learning Swedish for nearly a year.

With Scandinavia being known worldwide for sustainable living and transportation, I couldn't think of two better places to go than Copenhagen, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden to go learn more and observe what was being done!

But why Copenhagen?
Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark

With Copenhagen being known as one of the most sustainable cities in the world, it was the perfect place to visit to learn more about the topic. From transportation to efficient buildings and preserving green space, the level of commitment to living within bounds is ever-present.

But why Stockholm?
Stockholm City Hall, Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm's well known for the city's multi-modal forms of transit, with people having the option to utilize buses, the metro, commuter rails, bicycles, e-scooters, trams, ferries, and more, along with the Swedes' dedication to living more sustainably.
